School Policies
Enrollment Prerequisites
Students must have as a minimum, a grade 12 diploma or
equivalent and be 17 years of age. Students must have good reading and writing skills.
Courses in biology, science, and art are an advantage but not necessary for acceptance.
An interview will be conducted to discuss aptitude, genuine interest and expectations from
a career in the field of Esthetics, before final acceptance.
Final acceptance to all courses offered is at the discretion of Maritime Institute of
Holistic Esthetics.
The school also requires two letters of reference (academic, character or
employment ) &
a copy of your grade 12 Diploma. There is a $100.00 pre-registration fee and
fee of $35 to process the application.
Registration & Financial
Assistance
The school only accepts a limited number of applicants, potential candidates must pay a
$100.00 pre-registration fee to secure a seat in the program which will be deducted from
the cost of tuition. Funding is available through HRDC and the Canada Student Loans
Program. We encourage students to apply for funding early in the summer
before classes begin. Applicants will receive tuition receipts for any tuition payments.
Forms are available at the Maritime Institute of Holistic Esthetics or at the Student
Financial assistance office. The repayment of loans is the sole responsibility of the
student and The Maritime Institute assumes no responsibility, financial or otherwise,
for student loans.
The school reserves the right to refuse admission to applicants who are deemed unsuitable
for entry to the program. Admission of part time students will be subject to availability
of space.
Class Time
Students must complete the minimum number of hours required to write provincial exams and
will be made aware of their responsibilities during orientation. Classes are from 8:30 am
to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday and Thursday evenings until 8 pm.
Holidays shall be observed in accordance with the majority of businesses in the area and
will be posted in advance.
Student Marks
The students will be supplied with a copy of their mid-term marks at Christmas break and
their final marks before provincial exams. Marks are based on tests and assignments as
well as a 20 % class mark.
Passing grade at the Maritime Institute of Holistic Esthetics is 70%. Honors grade is
90% (maintained in all areas).
The Institute will assist students in finding placements for the required completion of a two-week work term.
A diploma will not be issued before students have settled accounts
owing to Maritime Institute including total cost of tuition.
Graduation
Each student will be issued an equal number of tickets for the graduation for their family
and friends. As in
the past, the staff will organize the event, which will be held in North Sydney, with the
cooperation of the students. Upon successful completion of the course students will be
awarded their diploma and be able to apply for a license to practice in the Province of
Nova Scotia.
Conduct
All students agree, by the act of registration, to be bound by the regulation of the
Maritime Institute of Holistic Esthetics and the program in which they are registered.
Acceptable standards of student conduct are based on common sense and courtesy. Students
who fail to conduct themselves in a socially acceptable manner, who violate the rights of
others, who damage school property, or in the manner and speech attempt to discriminate
against others, may be asked to discontinue their studies.
Cancellation or Withdrawal
In any case involving cancellation of withdrawal, the Maritime Institute of Holistic
Esthetics follows the rules and regulations as set out by the Nova Scotia Department of
Education. The school refers to the "Tuition Refund Policy" regarding dismissal
or withdrawal of any and all students.
